Who cares if I slept well the night before or not and how much sleep I got? Really, who? It was a trip to Ayuthaya this day and we were joined in by a guide whose name I do not remember, so I'll just call him Kuya #2. He's the son of Kuya Chok's boss. Kuya Chok is not exactly our guide and he doesn't know much about Bangkok and the nearby cities that's why Kuya #2 is with us.
Entries to the Ayuthaya ruins are not free unless you're a Thai so Kuya Chok had to pretend tha...

I have been to Ayuthaya before- the second of my three Peace Corps trainings was there. Peace Corps had put us up in an awesome hotel with rooms the size of small roller rinks and we toured the city a little during our free time.
This time I was there to meet Ryan’s family. I was nervous; meeting the significant other’s parental units is not a calming activity. Would they like me? Would his sister think I was fat? Would his mother think I was bit...

Ayuthaya was the cultural center during the rise of the Thai nation dating back to 1350. The Burmese sacked the city which then housed the king of Thailand in 1767. The earthquake shaken leaning remains of the ancient city are the main tourist draw. Upon arrival we realized, contrary to our original plan, that we were not going to be able to walk to all of the sites. Damn scales on maps. We met our ever smiling tuk-tuk (modified motorbike with three wheels...

Ayuthaya was formerly the capitol of Thailand. The Bermese took the liberty to sac it some time ago. Of which the King at the time fled to a city near present day Bangkok. Thats the significance. Ach and her sister decided to stay behind and go shopping at the JJ market. Another trademark of Bangkok from what I understand. It consists of many city blocks just filled with small shops selling everything from trinkets to full scale wooden elephant statues. Basically, if its in Thailand, you can ...

This morning I left for the Bangkok train station to catch the train North. I took the 9:25 commuter train and arrived in Ayuthaya two hours later. This train moved really slow and stopped at even the smallest stations. I wanted to stay on the island of Ayuyhaya where the most sights are (Ayuthaya was built between three rivers), so I took the ferry. Then I started to look for the guesthouse I wanted to stay in. Unfortunately my map reading skills were not as good as I thought, but in th...

We spent an afternoon and a night in a place called Ayuthaya, which is a couple of hours north of Bangkok. We went there to visit the historical park as it sounded nice in the lonely plant. As it turns out, it was really interesting seeing all the ruins of old temples especially as it was so different to the rest of the town. The runis themselves were alot better than I thought they were going to be and some of them were massive. I cant imagine how amazing the place looked whe...
