Real mixed bag but some gems - Indonesian food Sep 06, 2013
This cafe is within the Darwin Central hotel complex on the ground floor. Offers both lunch and dinner (not sure about dinner on all days though). The cafe offers a range of bain-marie food and freshly made meals. Avoid the bain marie food as it is not kept appropriately hot and as such is usually disappointing. The one exception to this is the fried bananas which are lovely. The freshly made meals are listed on a big poster in front of the shop. My favourite is sop buntut (ox-tail soup) which is consistently nice served with lots of veges, rice and cracker. The chilli paste that comes with it is HOT so tread warily. Also comes with lemon or lime. Around a dozen other selections including the tried and tested Nasi Goreng, Ayam Goreng, Mi Goreng. The fried chicken tends to be on the oily side so I prefer the Mi Goreng. If you ask for spicy be prepared for it to be hot. They do make the food non spicy if you wish. Staff are always friendly and service is reasonably quick and suitable for lunches. So a mixed bag but the ox-tail soup is recommended. Water is available free with meals. Also the shop stocks TehBotol - sweet jasmine tea which complements the Indonesian food beautifully. Prices are $12 for freshly made meals at lunch and slightly higher at dinner. Drinks extra
