Yurt Camp in Uzbekistan Oct 07, 2014
This is a low end yurt camp. Those impressed by it have likely never stayed in a good yurt camp in Mongolia and elsewhere. There are no beds or cots. Visitors will sleep on rugs with small coverlets. The location gets cold at night and, at the end of September, there was no heat. Other camps provided small iron stoves and wood, this place makes you shiver the night away. Food is good for a yurt camp but there are no chairs or benches only pillows on the floor. The location is great, near to the ruins of the Ayaz-Kala fortress (4 to 2nd centuries BC) but the accommodations are very Spartan when they need not be. The toilet facilities are less than adequate. There were two western style toilets for about 40 guests many of which probably had "traveler's disease." They ran out of toilet paper but fortunately replenished it later. Forget the showers, stay unwashed. The stars at night are fantastic in spite of the poor conditions of the camp. If they advertise camel rides, forget it! The one camel was ill and so old we were told that rides were unavailable.
