Awana Kijal resort by the beach Aug 31, 2011
During my business trip to Kemaman – Kertih (East coast of peninsular Malaysia), I stayed at Awana Kijal Resort hotel which book thru online. Hotel Lobby area is quite big and decorated with real plants and flowers (Artificial) and counter staffs are friendly. The resort is rated as four stars and 90 minute drive from the Terengganu Air port. It’s a huge beautiful resort where the smiling courteous staffs at the front desk quickly complete the briefing and check in formalities. We check in and got the room at level three pools view and facing to sea but due to some of pines trees and block partially the view of South China Sea. The room have nice bathtub and have a windows between bed and bath room. It has separate shower and toilet facilities. Bathroom looked like just renovated and clean and water pressure is strong enough too. Also equipment with common items bathroom like hair dryer and shaver plug.
The room which provide the old type of TV with few channels which is not important for me as room for sleep at night and day time, mostly out for meeting or visiting surround area. Wireless access point available at room with additional charges and free wireless are lobby area but signal not so strong.
Hotel have it owned 18 holes golf course and driving range, also provide the golf shop for souvenir items as well as rental of golf sets but I have no buddy to play golf at that time and not sure how good about their golf course.
I do have buffet dinner at resort with limited dishes. For additional drinking water and snack which can be purchase at the mini market which located at the entrance of the resort. Hotel provides the open space car park facilities for visitors at their own risk.
Next morning, we have our breakfast at resort, served local dishes like, Nasi Lemak (Coconut rice), Roti Chanai (Roti Plata), Nasi Campur, noodles and some Indian style dishes. During the breakfast, we notice that a lot of people wearing overall and having their breakfast before they want to their plants.
You can rent a bicycle and ride along the beach, or you can rent the ATV to ride along. We have 30 minutes section with ATV and fun along the beach but ATV are quiet old and no power. There are some activities available from the operator like Jet Ski, Kayaking, and speed boat. We saw one old bike (triumph) with operator and tried to rent for fun ride, but not available.
For next day dinner, we have tried the local Chinese restaurants which located entrance of the resort. We ordered mixed vegetable, butter fried prawn, fried clam with chilli paddy, Thai tom yam soup and Fried rice for dinner. The food servicing there is quiet nice and taste good. Most of resort visitors are at this restaurant and mini market. Swimming pools is quiet nice for both adults and children which have barrier for the depth of water level.
Resort is nice but we can have beer at vicinity area and must go pub and drink but when I entered the pub, I seen a few westerners (5 or 6 only) in the pub and they smile at me because of not much customer. The area has no activities at night and local people sleep early.
Every morning, resort plays the drums at the entrance during their flags rising time at 8:00A.M which I have never experienced this activities in most of the hotel in Malaysia. Resort located at out of town, due to business nature and hotel packed with lot of visitors, related to oil and gas operators as well as some European. But worth to stay at resort and if I go there again, I will stay again.

The resort had an offer during the period of Ramadan and my friend had booked in before I had to leave to Redang and Perhentian islands. The resort is rated four star.A 90 minute drive from the Terrenganu Air port led me to a beautiful, huge resort where the smiling courteous staff at the front desk quickly complete the briefing and check in formalities. The rooms were spacious with a soft bed and had a nice bathroom and shower. No worry about amenities as even bathrobes were provided.Has a pool, mini Golf course, travel desk promoting a fishing trip or visit to a fire fly cave.On the beach of the south China sea the resort is well positioned. It has a restaurant and the food is also well prepared.
Though there are not much of tourist spots nearby if you are prepared to enjoy the luxury of a 4 star resort at your own pace..yeah this is it.
