Avoriaz Overview

Avoriaz is a family oriented French ski station (elevation 1800 meters) in the Region Rhone-Alpes, department Haute-Savoie, on the border with Switzerland. It is part of the Portes-Du-Soleil; a collaboration of fourteen French and Swiss ski resorts that are inter linked, combining over 600 kilometers of slopes.

Avoriaz, built in the sixties, sits on a South facing plateau and is completely car-free. Mode of transportation is by horse drawn carriage, snow scooter or on foot. Though Avoriaz is primarily a ski resort, it also has an active summer season with hiking and MTB trails set out. If you're not into winter activities, but do want to enjoy the clean mountain air, Avoriaz boasts a cinema, sub-tropical swimming pool and plenty of bars and restaurants with terraces to enjoy local specialties.
