Avoid traveling during China's national holiday weeks May 1 and Oct 1 Apr 26, 2008
The Golden Weeks of May 1 and Oct 1 are national holidays in China, in addition to the Chinese New Year (which falls on different date every year, but usually between late January to Mid-February), should be avoided if possible. Since all the Chinese people have holidays then, they tend to travel to all the popular locations, so all these places will be packed with people. So if you have a choice, you should avoid traveling to China at these times.
Update: I just found out that this year (2008) the May 1 holiday is only 3 days, not a whole week!
