Avilon Zoo Rizal Reviews
Avilon Zoo Apr 08, 2007
A half hour drive from Manila, Avilon Zoo is the largest zoological park in the Philippines. Even bigger than the Manila Zoo.
Granted Zoos in the Philippines to do not compare to that of other countries, but if you are looking for this kind of attraction to take your kids to, then Avilon should be your choice. It has man-made lagoons and nice landscape pocket gardens. The zoo boasts of around 3000 animals from 500 species around Asia and Papua New Guinea.
Once arriving at the zoo, don't be fooled by the less than spectacular entrance. Once you enter you'll be greeted at the pavillion by some friendly staff and a big pond.
The animal collection is wide and varied, from reptiles to birds, and arachnids to big cats. My favorite would have to be the tapirs and kangaroos. The zoo still doesn't have a large mammal collection, but from what we were told they will be acquiring elephants and giraffes soon. Construction of this section is currently on-going.
There's also a big pond with huge arapaimas, which the staff claimed ate a lion cub when it fell on the pond. poor kitty.
It is a bit tiring to trek around the zoo - the only means of getting around. So bring your bottled water with you.
There are guided tours until 3 PM. The Tour takes about 2 hours to complete. Food (except for the dining area at the pavillion), flash photography and smoking is prohibited inside the zoo.
Rates: Php208.00 or $5.00/person
