Avila Vacation Guide
Ávila has a population of 52.000 and it is only 100kms away from Madrid so it is a perfect city for a one day trip. It is a perfect picture of medieval times, as it is sourrounded by a fairy-tale stone wall with 88 watch-towers, which is considered one of the world´s best preserved medieval defensive permiters.
Some of the must see places are Ávila’s 12th-century cathedral, The Basílica de San Vicente and El Monasterio de Santo Tomás, although many tourists come to enjoy its world famous T-bone steak (chuletón avileño) and its “Yema de Ávila” a dessert made of egg yolk and suggar.

Avila is a small town around 2 hrs from Madrid by train. We happened to go there because every other attractions were fully booked since it was Easter. I felt lucky about it. I like Avila a lot, the Wall city as it used to be the city of defense. Avila is cold town but the people are so warm at heart.
