Aviaros Sloth Sanctuary Reviews
great learning experience all about sloths Jun 16, 2009
when i was in costa rica i heard about this place from a fellow backpacker && decided to make a trip there. its kinda out in the middle of no where. the nearest stop is Cahuita, but was pretty easy to get to by the tico bus.
this place takes care of injured sloths. some they release back into the wild, others sloths are injured too bad && cant take care of themselves in the wild so they stay at the sanctuary.
the family that owns it & runs the sanctuary is so friendly. the tours are given by the family or the volunteers that are there. they show you sloths at different ages, and show you how they feed 'em and the injured sloths they have. you can actually spend time there volunteering if you want. they also offer a boat ride, which they take you down a small river where you get to see all sorts of birds and animals. really relaxing :)
the entire tour with the boat ride took me about 1 1/2 hours.
overall it was a great experience. i never knew sloths could be so cute, and i left knowing a lot more than the average person should about sloths :)
