Average hotel but great restaurant! Sep 15, 2010
After our great bargain in the restaurant of this hotel a fortnight ago,we decided to come back and have a dinner there: for convenience we booked the only room available,one of the cheapest one(66 euro).

It was a tiny clean room on the first floor(no elevator)with a comfy bed,free WiFi,a flat TV with only French channels(we managed!),no safe,no minibar,no tea or coffee facilities as usual in 2 stars French hotels.

The window over the highway was very soundproofed but we heard some noise from the corridor..

The correct bathroom has a hairdryer,amenities and very curiously wash clothes.

The breakfast(12 euro) with Nespresso was great for us but there was no cooked dish!

Private carpark:5,70 euro

Finally we had a good night after our tasty dinner:

Danielle had a terrine de foie gras en tranche épaisse,then a piece of sea bass a la plancha and orange and pomelos soup

I had after a crumbled up crab, a calf's sweetbread then a pineapple in different ways all washed out by a Chablis 2006.

HAUTE and AFFORDABLE CUISINE in South Burgundy! Sep 14, 2010
Going on to re-discover southern Burgundy,we had today in Tournus,halfway between Dijon and Lyon a fabulous lunch in Aux Terrasses,a family run hotel and restaurant.

After his father's sudden death 5 years ago,Jean Michel Carette had to pick up again the job:he carries out the cuisine successfully having worked in the prestigious firms of Christian Lherm,Sébastien Chambru and Michel Troisgros in Roanne last.

As we were in the area for strolling,we chose the cheapest menu,24 euro and got an "avalanche",a flood of delicacies:

1)finger food:gougère,eggshell on toast and quail egg?

2)appetizers:Andalusian gaspacho and its borage flower,goat's cheese cream in olive oil and whelk rillettes

3)starter:Danielle had the skate pressée and its vegetables confits in tomato water jelly and I enjoyed the regional speciality,ham persillé(sprinkled with chopped parsley) in aligoté jelly

4)main course:my wife had a veal blanquette in a quaint chef's way with baby vegetables and for me,a hot mallard pâté with vegetables.We enjoyed both the delicious purée in olive oil

5)we both chose the original dessert named "Accord parfait fruits et légumes",perfect fruits and vegetables pairing:raspberry and red pepper sorbet,tomato brunoise and plain strawberry(if the pairing raspberry-red pepper seems perfect,I didn't really enjoyed it due probably to my too classic and worn taste buds!).

We washed our lunch with a Pucelle(virgin) of St Aubin.

other menus:32,45,60 and 75 euro.

This Michelin rated restaurant(one star) features 3 dining rooms decorated with good taste in a modern style where you are warmly welcome by Henriette and Amandine Carette and seems to be one of the best values in the country:we were so keen that we are going back next Saturday!
