Fui a Vienna!
posted by:
Jan 12, 2008 - Jun 24, 2008
After the weekend in Barcelona with my friends who visited, I went to visit Steph in Vienna! I am aware that I went about two weeks ago and it´s been awhile since my last entry, so I have some catching up to do. But this entry is about Austria only, so I´ll update on life back in España later. It was my first Ryanair experience, which (for advice to others who might be flying Ryanair in the near future) was interesting, to say the least. To be fair, my flight was fine and I felt safe an...

I ate a bratwurst the size of my arm! It was massive and served in a baguette that was put on a big metal pole to make a hole in it, ketchup was squirted in and then the sausage put in then handed over. Tasted great! But too much for me to finish. Then, I ate a pretzel the size of my head. Carrie paradise! (¾ of my blood's German and Germany shares a lot of food with Austria) There are little bars all over too selling beer, not that I like Beer, the one thing I cant stand, so y...

Salzburg - Fairytale city
posted by:
Apr 20, 2008 - May 16, 2008
Today was our anniversary and what better place to spend it than in the romantic city of Salzburg. We woke up to clear blue skies and headed out with another busy schedule of sightseeing. Having been travelling for so long; days of the week have ceased to mean anything to us but of course the rest of the world has not forgotten. The quiet empty streets of yesterday had been invaded by hordes of weekend tourists. We decided to head up the funicular railway to the cliff top fortress. Even thoug...

Arrive in Vienna
posted by:
Sep 30, 2002 - Oct 14, 2002
A long travel day back on the train.  We woke  up early to head back to Vienna, where we'd be spending one night one our way back to London.  The trip went well.  When we reached Vienna, it was really rainy.  I was tired, and temped to just hide in the hotel, but Steven really pushed to walk around the city one more time, and I'll always be so glad that he did; I'll always remember that final night of Vienna glowing, all rain misty, and it was really worth doing.

We were tired of driving, but still had a long way to go to our next destination. I saw a road sign for Melk, and I'd heard that the Melk Abbey was amazing, so we decided to go check it out. This is what's nice about a flexible itinerary. Melk turned out to be a wonderful place.

Goodbye Salzburg. Hello Hallstatt,We are off to Hallstatt this morning; sitting here at the train station writing this e-mail right now; listening to the recorded messages on the PA system in German. We have some time to kill so I thought I would get in an update on how things are going over here.Last night we went to see the Salzburg Red Bulls play, they won 3-0. The match was great; the fans are so into their football over here. The have a section for the visiting team’s fans and it is al...

Another tour, this one to the South Woods, which were beautiful. We saw this Convent which was a former Hunting Lodge of Crown Prince Rudolph, who committed suicide after shooting his 17 yr old mistress, who was a baroness.  He was married to A Princess with children.  The family gave the lodge to the Church so Rudolph could be buried with his Royal Family.  Then onto an Abbey and Tomb of the Babenberg Dynasty (1650’s).  Part of the Church was built in the 1100’s which...

We weren't really in Innsbruck, but it was the closest city.  Anyway, we stopped in Austria when I saw a Rodelbahn.  I'd been on a few of these before, so I wanted everyone else to try.  Most of the people in the world can operate these things without any problems.  Apparently, I am not most people.  You can see the picture.  A quick stop turned into a 4 hour doctor visit.  I have every intention of getting on the next Rodelbahn I find.  ...
