I joined two Austrian friends for a weekend cycle through the region known as Wachau, about one hour west of Wien. We started our journey at Melk and travelled east in the direction of Durnstein. In this direction it is best to cycle on the left hand bank of the Danube as you will pass through more of the picturesque villages such as Spitz, Weissenkirchen and Durnstein. Durnstein is probably the most touristy of the towns you visit in this area but also one of the nicest. A ruin above the tow...

On December 2006 being in Prague we decided to take one day to go and see Wien. Of course, it is not possible to get to know such city in one day, but we took our chances. It was cold and windy, so we had some hot wine and walked around the streets. The city was decorated for Christmas. It was very beautiful. We visited a Christmas market right in the center. Everyone was walking and having fun, people drinking wine, eating pastry, dancing to the music, candies and fur-tree decorations sold e...

On my last day in Vienna, Alex mentioned that you can indeed go inside Schloss Hofburg, and take a self-guided tour of the rooms. So, we headed there, found the entrance, paid, and went in. The self guided tour starts you through the kitchens, and with the audioguide you learn about the different set of china they had and the silver bowls, centerpieces, etc...and how much they cost! The tour then takes you through the palace, where unfortunately you can't take pictures. ...

Austria is the most beautiful and historical country I've been in. When we went in the spring of 2006, we visited Steyr, Vienna, and Salzburg, The Lake District, Melk and other various little Skiing villages. The buildings were soo beautiful and different from what I was use to seeing, it made going back home to Canada a chore.

Jess arrived to Vienna a few days before Christmas. She arrived from India, so I thought I’ll bring a second jacket to warm here to the airport. We had a couple of degrees below zero that day. I began to show her Vienna. Starting with the Schloss Schönnbrunn and the Silber Camber, before we drove to my hometown Bad Aussee. Vienna was only covered by a very thin layer of snow. In my hometown more than one meter is waiting for her.

A long travel day back on the train. We woke up early to head back to Vienna, where we'd be spending one night one our way back to London. The trip went well. When we reached Vienna, it was really rainy. I was tired, and temped to just hide in the hotel, but Steven really pushed to walk around the city one more time, and I'll always be so glad that he did; I'll always remember that final night of Vienna glowing, all rain misty, and it was really worth doing.

Just an hour out of Vienna is Semmering, a nice little ski hill that in the summer turns into a cranking Downhill Mountainbike bonanza. I went on Saturday to check out the opening day. Some great trails and a beautiful little spot. Viel spass!

With a group of around 60 friend from the camping site in Belgium, we went with a bus to Schoppernau. Breakfast and lunch were taken underway. We were lodging in the Hirschen Hotel. A very nice hotel with sauna and indoor pool facilities. Diner was also enjoyed there with live music the last evening. The whole trip was planned around walking several routes in the region. Lunch was usually taken halfway the walk in a mountain hut. One afternoon we had to catch our own lunch from the pond. Quite...

Day 2:
I woke up really early in order to leave everything ready before leaving to Venice. I want to see as much as possible of the city before going to Italy. So I visited the typical: Schönbrunn Schloβ, Hofmobiliendepot & Sissi Museum.
I went back to downtown and was walking around the opera. There were guys dressed as Mozart inviting people to go to the opera. They were fun hahaha!
Stephanplatz again, this time the cathedral was open and I climbed to the Steffi. It was gr...

Salzburg is well known not only for its beauty, arts and history but also for their most famous son - one world's most beloved composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Being the second time in Salzburg, I was over with the excitment of visiting Mozart's birthplace or tasting the Mozartkudeln. On our one day stopover to our next destination Hallstatt, we went to visit the Fortress Hohensalzburg built in 1077 by Archbishop Gebhard which is considered as the largest and fully preserved fortress in ce...
