Kings Park, Perth
posted by:
Feb 16, 2008 - Sep 03, 2008
What started out to be a rather cloudy day, I was forever thankful the sun decided to come out and shine upon us. Not wanting to spend another weekend doing the housework, shopping and laundry. I decided to be a tourist in my own town and visit some of my favourite places in Perth. Kings Park is such a great place to visit. There is always something happening and the views are spectacular. Originally named "The Perth Park" in 1895, it was later changed to "Kings Park" to mark the accession ...

Watermark Spa And Hotel Gold Coast

Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street,  oops I mean Seaworld. Well we are in the Gold Coast which is Australia's capital for  theme parks there is Dream World, Movie World, Wet and Wild and another 2 parks.  We have a 5 year old boy who can't go on many of the rides that the other parks have so we thought we would venture out to the oldest but I think the best theme park Seaworld. I had been to Seaworld in the early 80's so I was looking forward to going ther...

East coast of Oz
posted by:
Apr 03, 2006 - Jul 31, 2007
Our last couple of days in Australia. We visited Watson's Bay on the super fast ferry, and went to Sydney Aquarium where we walked down a tunnel enabling you to see sharks, rays and turtles. We also did  last minute preparations for our Asia leg of the trip. We have really enjoyed our 'Oz experience' - the great hospitality, stunning scenery, and vibrant cities have made it a great place to explore. Western Australia beckons us back.

Melbourne
posted by:

Melbourne, my second city in this trip, a city that impressed me by the variety of culturas who meet here.   Melbourne is located on the Yarra River, surrounded by beautiful parks, and buildings with a mix of classic and modern buildings and a variety of restaurants, shops and a casino (Crown) that is not sleeping, is open the 24 hours.   In the days that I was in Melbourne, I take every moment to visit what could be more, and try to all kinds of food because there are all kinds...

Playing tourist for the day
posted by:
May 29, 2008 - May 31, 2008
I spent the day sightseeing in Sydney today. I like to visit Circular Quay and the Rocks, visit some of my favourite shops and check out the beautiful Sydney harbour. Robyn decided she would like to come with me; it is the same everywhere, people never sightsee in their own back yard, and Robyn had not been into Circular Quay for some years. We wandered from the train station around to the Opera House where I took a photo or two of the house and the harbour. Next, we went into the histo...

The last time I drove from Darwin to Brisbane
posted by:
Apr 12, 1989 - Nov 10, 2007
I lived in Darwin for about 10 years and left with my family in April 1989. My dad and I drove the 3415km in four days, driving from morning until the end of the day, staying in little motels along the way. The drive normally takes approximately 44 hours depending on road conditions, and how many tyres you blow out along the way. I drove my little Datsun 1000 with my pet budgie strapped into the front passenger seat and my belongings filling the rest of the car, and dad drove his car be...

Pondering the year just passed
posted by:
Jan 01, 2008
My new year rang in with a burst of fireworks and kisses at the Taste of Tasmania. Each year for a week after Christmas, some of Tasmania’s finest food and beverage providers get together to serve up a culinary feast at the docks near Salamanca. New Years Eve is a celebration, with a selection of musical entertainers and the night culminating in the midnight firework display that has all watching oooh-ing and ahhh-ing with each explosion. This year at midnight, I was one of those people. &n...

Some things to look forward to
posted by:

Someone on Facebook posted this as a note, and I thought it was pretty hilarious, so I've copied it here. For those of you who don't know, the Australian government are going to introduce a test that will be mandatory for people applying for citizenship. It'll have questions like, "What is the population of Australia?" and "Who was the first prime minister of Australia?" and "What is the Australian colloquialism for barbecue?" The test below is a funny take on the whole thing...LANGUAGE ...

Hobart to Evandale
posted by:
Aug 05, 2007
The sun had only just risen when I set out this morning on my day trip to the north of the state. I wasn’t sure how far I would travel, I was happy to see where the day would take me. The Midlands (or Heritage) Highway runs right through the centre of Tasmania from Launceston in the north to Hobart in the south. Along the way is a smattering of quaint little towns with some fascinating history stories to tell. The history lessons shall begin shortly.   This group of photos I took f...

Toothache in Suburbia

Bryony Andrew, Morgan And Finlay take me in. On day one in Melbourne I lost my bag and had to cancel my cards; this left me completely stranded whilst waiting for replacements. For the first few days I stayed on my friend Campbell’s floor. Once it became clear I was (very literally) getting under his feet I transferred to his sister’s house, where I stayed with her, her husband and 2 sons for a further week. Of all the things I anticipated about my travels, I never imagined I’d f...

Rockhampton
posted by:
Sep 02, 2005 - Nov 10, 2005
Rockhampton has been my home town since we moved from the mining town, Moranbah, where my Dad worked, which was in 1986. I continued my high school studies there and a have lived the majority of my life since then in Rockhampton. Witj plans of moving not only from Rockhampton, but to another country, I couldn’t help but be a little sad at leaving the town. That said, Rocky will be easy to leave in some ways, especially for the travels we have planned and our future life in The Nether...
