Aunt Kate's Saint Augustine Reviews
Great Seafood at Aunt Kate's on the River Mar 24, 2011
We were up for another try at First Coast seafood for dinner on Thursday evening. This time, we drove to Aunt Kate's at Usina Beach on the Tolomato River.
This was really good local seafood! I ordered St. Augustine Style Fried Shrimp. It came with New Potatoes and a House Salad. The shrimp were so good! Susan had Grilled Scallops and Drew the Grilled Combo Platter (shrimp, scallops, fresh fish, and crab cakes). We started with a Calamari appetizer. The staff were very nice and made it a very relaxed dining experience.
The restaurant has some history behind it. Catherine (Kate) and Frank Usina started serving oysters to Henry Flagler and his sailing friends in 1900. The North Beach seafood restaurant grew from there. It has a dock on the river and you can arrive by car or boat!
It was a little hard to find. It's across the river from St. Augustine proper. You cross the Usina Bridge, then travel some distance north on A1A to Euclid, and then drive down a dark street to the restaurant! Recommended and worth seeking out!
