A journey to an ancient roman town Mar 31, 2011
Augusta Raurica (today is called Augst), was a distinguished city in the Roman Empire. 1'800 years ago, more than 15'000 people were living here. It was an important intersection of trading routes (north-south/east-west/rhine) There is no other Roman city that has more findings from that time than Augusta Raurica.

In the museum you find alot of different samples like coins, dishes, jewellery and the famous silver treasure found in 1961. Adjacent to the museum is the so-called Roman house. In this house you lear how the Romans lived.

Outside is the amphitheater. The sight was reconstructed for years and re-opened in 2007. There is also a zoo, with animals living to that time.

Next to the amphitheater there is a kiosk, which provides you with food, drinks and ice. I would recmmend to make a picnic around Augusta Raurica. There are different places for this, including barbecue areas. If you prefer to eat in a restaurant, there many to chose in Augst or Kaiseraugst.
