Augusta Lucilla Palace Rome Reviews
Nice, well located hotel Jul 06, 2012
We chose this hotel for our stay in Rome after our two sons had given it a good report following their stay there last year.
The location is just about right, it's just a 5 minute walk from Termini Station which is the transport hub of Rome, but is located on a nice quiet side street. The location being so close to Termini makes it very easy to get around Rome and see the sights, although there are a number of sights within an easy walking distance so the Metro is not always required.
We arrived earlier than expected - at 11am, and our room was not ready, but the helpful receptionist diverted the cleaning staff to make our room a priority for them. He ordered us free coffees while we waited in the cosy lounge. After half an hour the room was ready and we took the lift to the 5th floor. Our cases were delivered to the room shortly afterwards.
The nicely decorated room was very impressive, in fact it was almost like a junior suite. Off the spacious main bedroom was a small sitting area with a settee, dresser and wardrobe. The bathroom was small but well equipped with complimentary toothbrushes and toiletries which was a nice touch. The view to the rear was nothing much, just a courtyard and fire escape but the net curtains meant that this view didn't intrude. Incidentally, our sons had a front facing room overlooking the quiet street when they stayed and this would be our preferred option if we came again.
The air conditioning worked very well which was welcome as it was very hot when we were there. There was a safe in the room and the shower could knock you off your feet!
The hotel has a TV lounge and bar area which was to be quite memorable for us as this is where we watched the England vs Italy European Championship quarter final, completely outnumbered of course by Italians. There was some good natured banter and the Italians celebrated exuberantly when they narrowly defeated England on penalties. It was a memorable evening all the same and it added to our fond memories of the trip.
The buffet style breakfast was quite comprehensive and there was a wide selection of both hot and cold food, along with a variety of juices, teas, and coffees.
Overall this is a nice clean friendly hotel benefiting from a great location. For the money we found it to be very good value and based on both our sons' and our own experiences I'm happy to give this 4 stars - recommended.
