Audubon Park New Orleans Reviews
Way to Spend a Lazy Afternoon Jun 26, 2008
Audubon Park is located about 6 miles out of the downtown area of New Orleans. The entrance on the St. Charles side is right in front of the universities and is on the streetcar line. A beautiful old park, the oak trees that line the road/walkway keep things shady and cool. Throughout the history of New Orleans, this park has provided many functions. Locals enjoy the park for recreation. Live oaks, lagoons, benches to sit and watch the fauna, a playground, stables (private), the zoo, a golf course and tennis courts are all part of the park. Some of these require a fee for usage. The Zoo is accessible from the park and the front entrance if you don't mind walking a bit. However the more popular route is the ferry from downtown at the Aquarium. Taking the streetcar and then walking is less expensive, but use comfortable footwear. The park's front boundary is St. Charles and it extends until the levy and the Mississippi River on the other side. Watching the river and the boats that go by is also pleasant. Enjoying what the park has to offer is a great way to pass an inexpensive afternoon.
