See Beautiful, Historic Auburn University Apr 28, 2017
Auburn University was established in 1856 as East Alabama Male College. It went bankrupt and was taken over by the state in 1872 which did not provide any funding until 1883. Auburn has grown, however to become one of the most respected universities in the south and a powerhouse in football. Auburn started the first college football team in the region in 1892, the same year they first admitted women. They also led the area in obtaining running water, electricity, and a gas pump for automobiles. Today the campus is a beautiful attraction for tourists and provides an excellent education for students. Amongst the architecturally significant buildings are Stamford Hall (named after a former Alabama Governor) and Hargis Hall. Walking around looking at the architecture and absorbing the atmosphere is FREE.

Just off the campus is another attraction. The Auburn University Walk of Fame, which has plaques denoting past outstanding athletes who attended Auburn and played here. You may recognize the name of the guy in the last photo I posted. Not sure why they did not have one for my brother-in-law who played football here but had his football career interrupted by Vietnam.
