smoking dog - next to the street Apr 02, 2011
The name is the thing - le chien qui fume - the smoking dog :). It just attracts the unsuspicious traveller. near to the Invalides, you just jump into a cafe, which is like all the other similar ones in Paris. Busy with students and artisants, offering cafe, and fine wine. Good location - and a lovely name:)

"Au Chien Qui Fume" (litteraly "the smoking dog") is a very typical parisian "Brasserie" which was established in 1740.

A nice & elegant XIXth century style decoration, a real service with fully dressed waiters and high quality french traditional recipes.

This one brasserie is located at the very center of Paris, next to what was Paris' food market before ("Les Halles"), and has therefore established his name on the quality of its raw products. Fish, Meat and Seafood are expected to be perfect here.

If you want to feel some of Paris in the "Jules Vernes" time, this is definitely a place to check.

Only drawback: The place is somehow expensive, and there are quite a few tourists around as the place is famous.

Bon Appétit!
