The next attraction on our walk around the city was Atumashi Monastery which was just next door to the teak temple, but if you are visiting many monasteries you may get tired of seeing them so maybe this is one that you should miss as there is not any particular attraction here. The monastery was constructed in the 1850's to house a Buddha image that contained a large diamond in his forehead, but when the British came the diamond went missing ( The Brits seemed to have stolen many precious stones ). The present building is a reconstruction of the original teak one which burnt down in 1890. The building you see now was built by prison labor in the 1990's.
