Attractions in Puerto Vallarta Reviews
Sep 01, 2007
Puerto Vallarta is a small touristcity on the westcoast of Mexico and houses some really amazing beaches, jungles and many other things
First of all there a lot of possibilities to go on a boat tour to the most beautiful places in the sea near Puerto Vallarta. Most of the boats leave around 9 or 10 in the morning from the harbour and you can go to 4 or 5 different places and for about 200 to 300 Pesos per person (including drinks and food on the boat) it is not very expensive. The most beautiful tour suggested by many locals would be the trip to "Los Arcos" (the one I did) The day starts with going to some island near the coast of Mismaloya where you do some snorkeling (swimming diploma necessary). There are plenty of fish and the sight of the islands is already breath-taking. It is also possible to go scuba-diving at that places, but an additional diving-certificate is necessary. After staying there for an hour and a half you go to a beach a little bit further on were you're able to rest/swim after the snorkeling. If you are more the adventurous type, there will be a possibility to hire a jetski (500 Pesos per Hour) or to go paraseilen (350 Pesos per flight). After relaxing on the beach some food and drinks (as lunch) will be served on the boat. Don't expect to much of the food, but it is not too bad. After that you will arrive at the final destination of the tour a small fishers town where you can decide to go on a horse to the waterfalls. It is highly recommendable to take the horse (150 Pesos per Horse), because the road for walking is muddy, steep and the waterfalls are about 2.5 Km far away. The view of the waterfalls is breathtaking and something you really should see and the trip with the horses makes it all more worthwhile. After returning to the boat, the boat will go back to the harbour and during the way back there will be a open-bar.
Second there is a possibility to go to Mismaloya (a small town about 15 minutes from Puerto Vallarta) with the Bus/taxi. At Mismaloya there will be a possibility to go to the filmset of the "Predator" (movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger). That should not be the reason to go there, but the possibility to go "Canoping" (abseiling) and to swim in the waterfalls with their nature-made slides should be. It is recommendable to take a taxi to the place, because the walk from Mismaloya is approx. 6 km and that can be a bit far away for children. The sight is amazing everything is located in the middle of the jungle and you can feel that everything is alive. This place is amazing for both parents and children, because th children can safely play in the water while parents enjoy a drink or play in the waterfalls aswell. During this trip it is recommendable to bring some mosquito-repelent with you. You can spend the entire day at this place, but other things that can be done aswell; hiking through the jungle or visiting the beach of Mismaloya (back in Mismaloya again). The Canopy is really amazing, flying through the jungle in your buggy and there are 12 different places to go down, the entire park is really professional organized which makes it comforable and really safe and you will almost feel like our Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Third option is visit the town of Yelapa, you go by watertaxi (if you look carefully they can take you for 100/200 pesos per person, but they also can charge you 500 pesos per person, because they know you are tourists) to the town (about 30 min with the taxi) because there is no road that leads to the town, luckily they recently discovered electricity which makes it also worthwhile to visit the city by night (it can be really romantic). For children there are beaches (where they can fish and snorkel), waterfalls with natural slides (like Mismaloya) and many other thing to do, but already the town is amazing for sight-seeing. At night you can either stay in the city-hotel or take the watertaxi back to Puerto Vallarta. Another payment should me made. Watertaxi leaves every 20 min from the pier in Puerto Vallarta
Some other activities with which I have not much or no experience are; hiking in the jungle near Puerto Vallarta, rent a quad to tour in and around Puerta Vallarta, visting the museum and churches in Puerto Vallarta, visiting the boulevard with beautiful statues and many street artists(beautiful during sunset), deepsea fishing (around 600 Pesos for adults, children 300 Pesos), from mid-december till March whale/dolphin wathing and snorkling (800 pesos for adults and 400 Pesos for children), Dolphin wathing (entire year, for 600 pesos for adults and 300 Pesos for children) and much more.
Please be careful with the prices given in this review, they are guildlines for when I was there (22 Aug till 29 Aug), many times you can haggle about the price to get everything cheaper, this is highly recomendable, because who doesn't want a cheap holiday. This is only because locals want you to pay the jackpot, because they know you're a tourist with money, therefore before you decide to do anything, take a look around, because you can take the same tours at more than one place and most of the time a lot cheaper.
The internet site I gave is good to visited before coming to Puerta Vallarta, it will already give some ideas of what to expect in Puerto Vallarta, but keep in mind; this is organisation is rather expensive.
Because I don't know about peoples perferences, I hope this review will give some ideas on what to do in Puerto Vallarta and the thing I really liked when staying there. I hope you have a great vacation (like me) in Puerto Vallarta
