Nice place, a few mishaps..... Jun 14, 2009
I quite liked this place - in the end. My (then) Girlfriend and I booked a 3 night stay here and decided to pay more than we normally would for a hotel due to it looking really nice and having an excellent location. However, when we arrived our airport pickup was nowhere to be seen, ok we thought - a taxi it is. When we arrived we were told that we would be staying in the sister hotel (the Atlante Garden) which is about half the price, we kicked off at this and said this wasn't good enough - I told them I worked for The Savoy Group in London (true) and that this was simply unacceptable - my girlfriend was saying that she worked in PR and would see to it that the hotel got no business from her London and Rome based clients if this wasn't resolved, the guy was being an arse**** and sort of smirked at us and told us to go out for a few hours and they would try to sort something out. We went out and had a few drinks and then went back to the hotel, they had (suprisingly) found a room for us. We checked in and went up to the room, there was a box of chocolates on the bed and champagne on ice in the room, there was also a note from the manager inviting us to go for a free meal in their roof top restaraunt overlooking St.Peters Basillica on the next night. The staff were really nice to us and the meal the next night was one of the nicest I have ever had. When we left after the 3 nights the manage came and apologised and got us a free lift back to the airport. A little complaining went a long way! I have since read reviews online that say that this hotel often sends people to its sister hotel after charging them to stay at the Star. Be strong, refuse to move and insist on being compensated for the trouble. It worked well for us. I would stay again but would again insist on staying at the Star and nowhere else. It's a small hotel with an ok bar, the rooms are nice, as are the jacuzzi baths. What really makes this place special is the roof-top restaraunt (expensive if you have to pay for it!) and its outstanding location.
