Atlanta was founded in 1864 as a gold and silver mining town. As of late no significant mining has occurred in Atlanta for over 50 years, but there is word of opening a new mine.
The town has about 40 or so year round residents and caters to tourism such as back country activities. It’s a very beautiful area with the amazing Sawtooth mountains looking over the town.
