Atherton Tablelands Vacation Guide
The Atherton Tablelands are located on a plateau just behind the famous gold coast of Queensland. You can reach them by several roads form the coast. Closed coast town is Gordonville. A steep road with sharp bents leads you to the plateau. The Atherton Tablelands are known for its wines, lakes and Crater Lakes National Park.
The Atherton Tablelands are home to the illusive platypus and many endemic rare birds. Lake Tinaroo is the biggest lake and created by a dam and perfect for fishing and water sports.
The biggest town is Atherton, where everything can be found, what normally can be found in a town. All over the Atherton Tablelands are waterfalls situated and even a special waterfall route is signposted.

The Atherton Tablelands is a mountainous plateau inland from Cairns has a refreshing cooler climate from the tropical coast. The area is very green and has rich farmland together with lakes, waterfalls and rolling green hills.
