Athens Greece Apr 23, 2017
The ancient sites are the main attractions of Athens. The magnificent Parthenon a top the Acropolis of Athens, is a picture everybody knows. The Greek Capital city, Athens, is named after Athena the Goddess of Wisdom.-- The Parthenon is high above the city and is floodlit at night. The Parthenon is open to the public. In Spring, Summer and Autumn a tip is take a bottle of water and wear a hat, because there is no shade from the hot sun.--- The Greek Parliament building is in Syntagna Square. Outside the building, Greek Guards in skirts and pom poms on there shoes march about. The Syntagna Square is the central point of Athens for holding demonstrations for and against the Goverment, they sometimes get rough. The currency in Greece is the Euro.---I travelled from Anconna Italy by ferry to Patras Greece, then by bus to Athens.-- Greece used to have a good train service, but because of the econmic situation not now. --The Port of Piraeus nearby has ferries to the Greek Islands, they have a reputation of being on strike regularlly. Still worth the effort to come to Greece.
Erechtheion. The Maidens.
