It's end of summer in Bucharest and the capital is frantically preparing for the 19th edition of The George Enescu International Music Festival.
The world's musical elite has descended into participation and anyone appreciating classical music simply has to be at the concerts.
I nimbly managed to secure a ticket for Tchaikovsky's Violin concerto and Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet interpreted by (who else but)Sankt Petersburg Philarmonic Orchestra.
After the finale, I slowly walked my way to Athenee Plaza (now part of the Hilton family hotels). With my black cocktail dress I look perfectly at home in this gorgeous hotel set in the heart of Bucharest.
The place is buzzing - business men, the festival participants, well heeled tourists- all adding to the frenzy caused by this major cultural event.
You could have a drink in The English Bar, enjoy French cuisine at The Brasserie or sample Italian dishes at Roberto's Restaurant and I can guarantee the staff will bend over backwards to make you feel welcome.
Being on my own (in the capital of the wolf whistling!) was not an impediment at The Athenee Plaza - everyone has behaved impeccably and I had a happy end to an enjoyable evening. I just wish I shared it with someone!
I haven't stayed there in a while but what I can remember is the bright and airy room, the beautiful furnishings and my towels felt fluffy!

Great review, Gianina! I LOVE elegant European hotels; we Americans tend to think any building contructed over 50 years ago is old :-D

The hotel is nice, the room was fine and the staff was very nice and attentive. However, the heating in the room was not working properly (in a very cold winter), the "IT ingenier" was unable to connect my laptop to the hotel WIFI internet...read entire review at TravelPost.com
