Riding the bus in Asuncion Jul 20, 2008
When traveling by public tranit or bus in Asuncion, Paraguay, one must be very careful. First, when getting on the bus you must immediately hold on to something because sometimes the bus driver steps on the gas and starts going even while you are giving him the bus fee!
When getting off, do it as fast as possible because many times the driver seems in a hurry and you might end up having to jump off the bus (it has happened to me several times) to exit the bus while it is in motion. Avoid the bus during peak hours early in the morning (from 6:00 AM to around 8:00 AM) and late in the afternoon (around 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM). Buses are packed and sometimes people get mugged, so do not use the bus during these hours. Besides, the heat is unbearable. Also, hawkers and beggars are common. Refrain from buying the food and drinks that they sell, since they are not approved by the Ministry of Health. Some will sing lively songs and it is appropriate to give them some change if you appreciate their singing. Additionally, buses are very cheap in Asuncion (2300 G or around 50 cents in US dollars) and they can get you to about any place inside the city. Furthermore, you will get to your destination faster than expected. So if you are in good physical condition, love adventure and want to save money, riding the bus in Asuncion can be fun! |

So, you´ve read all about our "wonderful" adventures through Bolivia, and now for the continuation . . .
Luckily here in Paraguay the roads are paved and not just dirt paths as their Bolivian neighbors´! So you´d think that things would be bette…tourist industry, but still a very nice visit. We were able to see all the sights rather quickly, considering there weren´t many!!! So the rest of our time here was spent resting . . . we needed it, for sure!!!
I have to admit that I didn… Asunción, Paraguay |
