kit_thom… 3 reviews	Oct 18, 2009 Very nicely situated, overlooking the ocean and possibly Albanian mountains. Sweet lobby, lots of marble. Rooms adequate (ask for balcony for sure). Unfortunately, there was a bad smell when I was there (burning toilet trash, I believe). I had to move hotels. Still, a good bargain for a great location. Part of the Corfu Redux travel blog

I lucked out. I jumped ship and left my American fellow sailors to go to Corfu on a whim and stumbled upon Hotel Astron via a desperate phone call from Paxos. Sight unseen can sometimes work out just fine. Scored a super-clean balconied room overlooking the harbor in a clearly renovated hotel of just-the-right-size. The front desk (owners?) were very pleasant and helpful and the location can't be beat (walk to port, Spianada, Liston, old town, shops, ocean.) I was there last September, will be there in a few days again and may well keep going back every year. Not terribly expensive nor fancy; to me, worth every penny. Er, euro.

I guess the reason it took so long to post this is that much of my trip to Greece felt so quickly like a dream. A good dream, yes, but a dream. Hazy, not quite real and, in retrospect, really hard to capture.Maybe it's the light, maybe it was the…Hotel Astron (near the New Fort) and walked up through somewhat familiar windy streets to the cafe I thought G (with whom a friend and I had shared a quiet evening with almost exactly a year ago, in Corfu) might be. The journey from London, Gatwick to Corfu, Greece takes just over 2hrs and 30mins. When you are wrapped up in a sardine can those 2hrs and 30mins feel so much longer. We flew with Thomas cook out to Corfu, for me the leg room was not an …Garitsa bay with the Old fort in site.
