Great timing! Apr 16, 2011
The astrological clock is situated in central Mantua, right next door to the Rotonda di San Lorenzo. The clock was built under the orders of the marquis Gonzaga and completed in the late half of the fifteenth century. Apart from telling the hour of day, the clock had more sophisticated functions such as where the sun could be found and further information about the lunar phases. Apart from being cutting edge scientific technology in its day, the clock is a great piece of local history. When you are passing through Mantua, be sure to give this clock a quick glance!
