Avoid the single room in this hotel! Oct 21, 2010
This hotel is conveniently located in the center of Lucerne. When I entered the hotel, I found the lobby area to be very modern and bright with lovely white furniture. The inside of the hotel was separated into two buildings, and I was designated to be in the other building away from the rest of my group, as I was the only one who was using a single room.

As soon as I entered, I was stunned by the size of my room. It was so unbelievably tiny and narrow that I couldn’t find any place to put my suitcase. Seriously, I have seen bigger closets than this room. I have stayed at many hotels in NY that had small rooms, but this one was beyond even those. It really reminded me of the reading rooms in Korea which can barely fit a desk and bed for students so that they could concentrate on studying.

The bathroom was even worse. I have never seen a bathroom that tiny before in my life. There was no space at all in the bathroom, and the toilet, sink, and the shower booth were forced to almost stick together as if they were in the restroom on the train. I am a relatively tiny girl, but it was hard even for me to move around in the bathroom.

Later, I found that only the single rooms were like that, and regular rooms for other people were actually spacious enough. Since I have not seen the regular rooms, I cannot comment about them. But I can definitely say that you should never stay in the single room in this hotel!!

Astoria Hotel Jul 06, 2009
Our second stop on the tour turned out to be one of the nicest hotels we stayed in on the entire tour. Perfectly located on one of the main streets in the city, it is easily within walking distance of everything you’d want to do. This is a big hotel, but it is modern and immaculately clean. It is a beautiful hotel. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and our room had a gorgeous view. The staff was friendly, and the meals, (with the exception of our second breakfast), and which we ate in the dining room, were fantastic. Outside the dining room is a lounge, also known as the dance club Pravda. At the time I stayed here, it was on it’s ‘summer break’, but normally it turns into a dance club on the weekends, and stays a lounge during the week (or so I was told). Upstairs (and looking down on Pravda) is Penthouse, a top floor bar that has an outside area that happens to be the hotel roof. We hung out in both these bars, and they were great!

I had heard from a few different guests in the hotel that they didn’t like how noisy the hotel was, due to these two bars, but I had no problem with the noise level once we went back to our room for the night. We also slept with the room window open, and did not find the noise level from the street to be loud, at all. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

A Hotel Worth Staying In Jun 28, 2008
Something about this place will always stick in my mind, and that is because of one thing: small elevators.

The best thing I can think of about this place is that it's so close to everything you need to be around, such as Lake Lucerne and the city center. The rooms are nicer than what you'd expect, and they are equipped with a television with many channels (albeit it's only a 14"). There is no mini-bar or safe, and the closet didn't even have any hangers. The one thing I've never gotten use to is the European outlets, and my universal plug didn't seem to work. I was told that there would be free wireless internet, but it ended up being the most expensive rates of the entire trip. It came out to around 17 Euros for 24 hours. What a bummer.

The bathrooms are clean, but there are no hairdryers and very few towels. There is a nice Thai restaurant attached to the hotel, and the Penthouse bar and club on the top floor is welcoming as well.

The average rate for a room is reasonable. I had a double room that I shared with my brother, and I was told that it came out to around $300. Seems reasonable, but I booked the hotel as part of the Insight tour... so we might have been charged a bit extra for amenities and what not.
