Okay stay More like a 2-star hotel, not 3+* Jan 21, 2011
I have stayed at 3+*stars hotel and they have complimentary coffee/tea and wi-fi in room, and the staff are more knowledgeable than this hotel. the partial ocean view room that i stayed has small balcony and you have to go out to the balcony and turn your head at the corner to see a bit of the ocean. the blankets are not thick enough, and the hand/face towels smell a little even though it has been washed. it's an okay stay if you just stay for the nights and the beach is just across the street from the hotel. the front desk clerk not knowledgeable other than to charge payments.

the compliment i can give them is they have continental breakfast buffet and i enjoyed the music & hawaiian lady dance by the pool.

I just returned from a one week's vacation in Oahu -- and stayed at the very quirky and comfy Resortquest Waikiki Beach Hotel (formerly Aston). I didn't know anything about this place only because I went with my entire extended family and my uncle was the one in charge of booking everyone's hotel rooms.

Great choice, Uncle!

I'll start from the lobby up. The lobby is in the open and acts as a great meeting place for your group, or meeting new people who are also vacationing in Waikiki. There's lots of couches and chairs, Hawaiian-themed of course, as well as surfboards on the wall that act as the hotel's sign (each surfboard has a letter of the hotel's name written on it). There is a small shop on the lobby floor with the usual sundry items you need and may have forgotten (sunblock, water, juice, Hawaiian souvenirs, mugs, umbrellas, phone cards, alcohol, stamps, etc.). The beach mats for $1.25 cannot be beat! Purchase a few to take across the street to the beach (or save a few bucks and "rent" beach towels from the 1st floor, check-in area.

On the lobby floor, you'll be no more than 6 feet away from a Wolfgang Puck To-Go restaurant, open every day until 10 p.m. This is a wonderful alternative to room service. Pass Wolfgang Puck's and turn left to find an array of restaurants... Subway, Hawaii Cookie Company, Coldstone's, Del Sol, Starbuck's... and you haven't even left hotel grounds yet! Pass Wolfgang Puck's and turn right, cross the street and you'll find yourself at the nearest ABC store

* A note on ABC stores (info I learned from a local bus driver). This chain of stores was owned by a Japanese man, and after he passed away just recently, left all stores to his son and daughter who now run all 85 stores in Oahu. I believe there are some in Maui, Kauai, and Kona as well, but only in the single digits. Did I mention you can buy many types of Japanese food here? All sorts of musubis (spam, salmon, etc.), noodle dishes, cut up fruit, Japanese pastries... one could go crazy!

Okay... we've moved onto the first floor... On the first floor you find the check-in/check-out counter. The pool is also located a few feet from the counter. The Tiki Bar and Grill restaurant is another great place to eat, if you don't want to resort to room service. Their macadamia nut fish is... Oh, I can't even begin to tell you the wonders of this dish! Every morning from 6:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., the free complimentary breakfast is served. When you check in, the hosts give you a lunch box, and you use this to fill it up with breakfast goodies to take across the street to the beach. Juices, Kona coffee, french toast sticks, Sausage/Egg sandwiches, breakfast burritos, mini bagels, mini pastries, yogurt, cereal ... as well as (for the Japanese-inclined) miso soup, noodles, etc. are served every morning. FILL UP! I can't tell you how much I saved on stocking up and bringing food across the street to the beach for snack time. :)

Each room has the regular amenities: closet, bathroom with hair dryer, Hawaii-themed bedspreads and dressers. There is no coffee maker; but java junkies like me had coffee every morning at the complimentary breakfast on the 1st floor. We even had flavors such as Coconut or as mentioned earlier, Kona blend. Each room has a large LG flat panel TV; movies are $12.99 not including tax. We had ocean view rooms and they were really worth it! My mom had a Diamond Head view and it was spectular and unobstructed, seeing as how this hotel has no hotel neighbors on the southside.

This hotel is also adjacent to the Honolulu Zoo --- you can literally walk down the street (South) to the Zoo. To the left (North) are boundless restaurants! Cheeseburger in Paradise, Run (Japanese sushi and noodle house), McD's, Burger King, Cheesecake Factory and the famous International Market Place (which has a reasonably-priced food court). Everything is within walking distance of the hotel... the best part about it was the beach being so close!!!!

For the price, for what's offered, for the activities surrounding the hotel... THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!

I have no complaints about Resortquest Waikiki Beach. If I ever return to Oahu (this was my 3rd time so the next time I go to Hawaii, I'd like to visit Maui and other surrounding islands!) or anywhere in Hawaii, I would definitely stay in a Resortquest hotel!!!

A night view from my oceanside roo…

Thanks for a wonderful description of the hotel. we are going there in the end of January, and now I am really looking forward to it...
We are in Radisson Fiji just now, so I was a little afraid it was going to be a dissapointment to come to another hotel, because this one in Fiji is so good! So again; thank you..
