Assmannshausen (insert your own joke here) is a typical small riverside town of the sort that populate the banks of the Rhein in this area.

Although relatively small it does house a wide array of traditional German bars, restaurants and hotels up and around it's very steep main street and along the river banks. It does seem to be somewhat quieter than it’s near neighbour Rudesheim so you get the kitsch without the crowds.

The town is famed for it's red wine which is proudly promoted around the town. Towards the read of the main area is a cable car which takes you up through to woods to the top of the hill above.
