Meeting Myanmar
posted by:
Jan 14, 2008 - Jan 26, 2008
Our alarm clock is in desperate need of attention at 7 am, ending our dreams in a matter of seconds. We’ve slept like babies and with a wonderfull breakfast in our bellies, according to Aart-Jan the best we’ll get in all Myanmar, we head into the city. Our quest today is to discover Yangon and find out what everyday’s life is all about here. Yangon is known to have quite some colonial style buildings and the Strand Hotel, our first objective, is a famous landmark. We go there on foot, ...

This story started in late March or early April.  I don't remember how it started but I asked him to come to Japan as I always say to other TBs. He didn't say he WANTS to come that time lol!!He told me he might come to japan a several weeks later. I ...

Recently, member “tvillingmarit”, remarked on my photos of entry number 2 of this blog that she had never visited the Taj Mahal, and asked if I could help her.   Now you know me, I’d help an old lady across the street even if she didn’t want to go. So I got out my trusty software and went looking for pictures that could be used to help Marit out.  First, I found a shot of the Taj Mahal and did a little work on it.  Then I located a good picture of Marit with a big smi...

Almost time
posted by:
Apr 13, 2006 - Feb 04, 2007
Although quite rewarding, traveling alone has been tough.  I feel like I am not being myself.  I am always acting overly assertive, sometimes even to the point of being aggressive.  The message I want to send the to those I encounter is that I am a strong woman- so dont dare mess with me.  Just because I am a woman traveling alone, doesn't mean I can be taken advantage of.  I treat with suspicion every male stranger who approaches me full of smiles. The ques...

Day 1: Five Hours of Butt Torture
posted by:
Feb 16, 2008 - Feb 17, 2008
We bid farewell to the resort staff and went on our way. Ahhh, another 5 hours of butt torture. We did pass by a store where one can buy local 'pasalubong' for our friends back home. After that, no more stops for us. On and on we drove, barely talking to each other, each lost in his own thought. This went on til one by one, we got out of the van. Kenneth, Pam, and Rhea and I were the last people to get off, this time in Makati to drop some stuff and left-over snacks in the office before...

Rain, Lightning and Thunder " what a way to end our volcano visit J     Since it was late in the afternoon already and the sky had somewhat darkened - a sure signal that it might rain anytime, we decided to head back and descend the trail.   Rochelle, Dennie and I stayed with our horses (I was too tired to walk) while Nickey and Mickey opted to take a hike. Going down I guess was easier and so reaching the foot was faster than climbing the top. We gave tips to ...

Singapore Fling
posted by:

Already in a mood about being fobbed off with another budget airline when our ticket says Qantas on it, I couldn't believe it when they said we had to pay 10 dollary-do's for in-flight entertainment. Luckily, there was a slight return to normality as I realised Singaporeans call Burger King by its proper name, not Hungry Jacks, like, for some reason, the Aussies do, and it was good seeing English footy as back-page news and not rugby. Excited by totally new surroundings, ...

This wasn't a year that I wanted to party out on my big day and I hadn't planned on doing so, but an invitation to Ilocos from Jenneth (jennethm) was not something I could pass up. Apo (planisphere) was sure to go too. Most of my friends had already been there and it was a long weekend coming up. After a few messages here and there, it was all set. We were to all meet early in the evening and go to the bus depot together. JeAr (JeAr) had joined us as well, but only to see us off. Too bad, it ...

I have been wanting to go to the island of Corregidor long before Josh organized for TB to visit the island. I am just glad that I was with a great bunch of people from TB to do it.Corregidor is an island situated at the mouth of Manila Bay. Long before the GIs converted this island as their base, the Spaniards had made used of the island as a sort of checkpoint for the sea vessels before they could reach the Fort of Manila. This was where the transaction of correcting their papers happened, ...
