On the River Wye, the small village of Ashford-in-the-Water is a nice place to take a rest if you've been walking in the Monsal Dale area.

The village is on an old packhorse route and is known for its packhorse bridge , more recently used for sheepwashing and called (not surprisingly ..) Sheepwash Bridge.

Nearby Holy Trinity Church dates back to the 13th. century

Address: Ashford-in-the-Water

Directions: On the A6 between Buxton and Bakewell.

To get to Monsal Head from Ashford, take the old packhorse road, now the B6465, 3km north.
