Asheville Drum Circle Reviews
You Can’t Beat This! ...well, maybe you can Aug 28, 2015
This is a serious reason to coordinate your Asheville visit to intersect with a Friday evening. A truly refreshing community affair, this is simply a congregation of folks with percussion. It is a free gathering which you are welcome to join without something to bang on (just clap, dance and enjoy).
A very informal affair, the rhythm begins between 5-6PM during “warmer months” and lasts until 10PM. I think they are required to stop then due to a local noise ordinance. Everyone meets at Pritchard Park, right in the heart of downtown (along Patton Avenue at College Street). The attendant at the tourist info desk who alerted me to this opportunity claimed things did not start really cooking until 7:30PM, but I arrived at 6:15 and it seemed to me things were already going full bore. I jammed with everyone for a half hour and then broke for dinner. Returning an hour later I probably grooved for an hour after that.
The vibe is infectious, but that is only a single element of the attraction. A magnificent collection of so many random people, all smiling and bopping together is such a powerful tonic for the soul. Friday night was certainly the right night to pick for the event. I will never return to Asheville unless I am able to be there on a Friday evening, and I recommend you do likewise!
