Ascoleses Italian Ristorante Tucson
Ascoleses Italian Ristorante Tucson Reviews
Poor service and a bad Attitude, what a coctail! Feb 07, 2010
I had a bad experience today. I had a bad experience and almost fourty other members of my meet up group felt the same way about this restaurant that has received many good reviews from many different people. I rarely write a bad review unless it is deserved, especially about restaurants because I know how varied the styles and tastes of individuals are not to mention how hard it is to please people. However, the experience tonight at Ascoleses Italian restaurant left a lot to be desired and definitely deserves a bad review from me. Our group co-organizer Mark had contacted the hotel management way ahead of time and reserved the patio area at the back of the restaurant for a Happy Hour o this particular Friday (June 30th), the management had agreed to host and serve us outside which was okay, but it turned out that on this rather hot and humid night the water sprayers was down and there seemed to be only one person serving a party of close to 47 people. No fans on the outside (well not that anyone was complaining, but you could sense the discomfort).
I confess I arrived a little late and decided I would not order anything to eat seeing as there was not enough service and I was not intending to stay late. My friend Ben offered to buy me a glass of red wine to compensate for not showing up to my birthday party. We ordered the drink from the bar, which was faster and easier. We sat outside for a little while and the service did not get any better (not that it would, since there was only one person assigned). The waiter seemed to have such an attitude when asked for a drink, his facial expression indicating he did not like what he was doing. It was easier for people to go in and order at the bar where there were two attendants (male and female) just looking at the bar waiting for those seating at the bar to empty their glasses and order again. I have not seen such service at a restaurant/ bar before, especially when there is a dire need to retain customers in the economy we have right now.
I do not think I would recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. Of course I have read so many good reviews about it, that it beats my understanding why we did not get even a tenth of that good service many have written about. Granted it is located in a prime setting in the downtown area and is convenient for the business community to have lunches. A few things I always look for when I go to restaurants and bars:
5. Location (not so much, but I prefer accessible)
I think I will add a few things to my list (attitude), you think? Hospitality is not the easiest thing, but I figure if you should try to be hospitable, do your best so people can say ‘he/she/they tried’. A smile and pleasant demeanor always covers up for bad service, I have seen people tip a waitress/ waiter more than they paid for their meal, just because they were pleasant. I have done it only once (in Germany) and that is because I was using someone else’s credit card he-he! I’m just joking. Honestly, Ascoleses could have done better in my opinion.
