Arterra Restaurant San Diego Reviews
good hotel restaurant Mar 15, 2008
I would probably describe this restaurant located at the marriott by del mar as california cuisine. the menu, i was told, changes depending on the fresh ingredients found that day.
we were given an amuse bouche of beet soup with duck prosciutto. it had a bitter after taste that did not quite excite my palette.
we shared numerous appetizers:
1. ceasar salad - it was fresh but nothing revolutionary.
2. ahi tuna - there were 3 kinds: poke, chunks of tuna and tuna carpaccio. i did enjoy this medley. the fish was very fresh.
3. crab cakes - again, there were 3 kinds: your typical crab cake, which was tasty, and a crab cake with kiwi and a crab cake with mango -- the last two being too fruity for me and overwhelmed the crab.
4. beet salad with goat cheese - this was fine - but then again, i am not a fan of the beet.
for my entree, i had the scallops with white asparagus and pork confit (about $30). the arugula salad that came with it was a bit too tangy. the pork was too fatty. however, i did enjoy the scallops (2 pieces), which were tender.
i tried the rainbow trout stuffed with maine lobster (about $30). this was tasty but for the fact that it was too salty.
this was an expensive meal and for such a price, it underwhelmed. however, if the price does not bother you, then the food should do.
