Artsy Hostel in Palermo Dec 15, 2014
This hostel is brand new, but they do have another hostel in San Telmo, so they are not new in the business. They are still working on few things, so I'm sure my review will be outdated soon.
Location of the hostel is pretty good, on a side street of Palermo Soho. It's just away from the busy streets with cafes and bars, but close enough. Few supermarkets, bakeries, stores just around the corner. Subway is 10-15 minutes walking. Parks of Palermo are also about 15 minutes away.
Hostel staff was great and friendly, always available, smiling, and very hospitable.
Front door was often left open, but I didn't feel unsafe.
My room had 4 bunk beds, and they were new and comfy. There are big lockers in the room.
To get to the room you had a few steps, and the room is just over the entrance door. Sometimes it was loud during the night, because people who smoke go outside and smoke in front of the door, just below my window.
No AC in the room, so I had to keep window open. I think they are in the process of getting AC for the room. This room also needs curtains for the window.
Bathroom was a whole different story. Ladies communal bathroom was very moldy. Horrible smell. Showers worked fine with hot water. There are 3 showers, and 2 toilet rooms. Only one sink though, which is not enough.
To get to the bathroom I had to go down the stairs, and walk by the common area.
Common room is together with kitchen, and was nice and comfy.
Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, which was great. Plenty of bread, butter and dulce de leche. Cornflakes as well. Coffee, tea, milk, etc.
They were working on decorating the place, in artsy fashion. Very nice.
I'm sure they will make this place a lot nicer, once the whole thing is finished.
