Arrowtown Overview
Arrowtown is small historic gold mining town on the South Island of New Zealand. It is a great destination for a day-trip if staying in the area. It is central to the region's fabulous wineries, galleries, golf courses, ski and fishing areas.
Its main street - Buckingham Street - is a great shopping attraction with a large range of boutique and specialty stores. Be sure to visit the sweet store!
It has a tiny population of 2,400 and is only 20 minutes from Queenstown and 15 minutes from the Queenstown International Airport. Originally founded in 1862 with the discovery of gold, people flocked into the town. A number of the old mining features of the town have been restored and are now permenant fixtures adding to the charm of the area. There are also a number of festivals that Arrowtown participates in or is at the center of. Being so near to some of 'The Lord of The Rings' sets is also a bonus.
