A small island but BIG on charachter and charm Jul 29, 2009
The small island of Gozo is accessible by one of two ways. The most popular route is that of the Gozo channel ferry which departs mainland Malta from Cirkewwa, or for a bit of extra fun (and more expensive) by the seaplane from Valletta.
Because the island is so tiny everything can be seen and experienced during one full day. The easiest form of transport is by car (they drive on the left), or take one of the hop on/off buses around the island. The local bus service up until the summer of this year (2011) was very reliable but since the demise of the local Bedford buses that have now been replaced by Arriva this form of transport is not as reliable.
Gozo is a great place for scuba diving, especially the area around the Azure window, a number of diving schools are situated on the island.
At the heart of the island is the capital Victoria where the majority of bigger shops are located. The rest of the island is dotted with smaller villages, spread around the roaming countryside.
The majority of great restaurants are situated around the harbours, in particular Xlendi and Marsalforn. Seafood is fresh and abundant. Try the Lampuki - a meaty fish, with great flavour - though only available after the Feast of Assumption - 15th August.
From churches to areas of natural beauty this little island has it all.

The Azure Window
The Inland Sea
