Comprehensive insight Mar 04, 2010
If you visit just one museum in Hanoi, you should make it this one. The museum is a comprehensive account of the wars that Vietnam has been in, from their struggle with the French to the one with America in the late half of the twentieth century.

The pieces are very well laid out and follow in a chronological order, and there's a good mixture of artefacts and information. Luckily the information is in English too, and is a decent amount. If you are nor into the history, then the boys' toys might excite you. War is hardly a pretty thing, but I really enjoyed seeing all the weapons and how they had changed over the centuries.

The items were fascinating to look at, and the place does have a high sense of patriotism and propaganda. You really admire the Vietnamese for their courage so much more after visiting this museum and I'm glad I went. Definitely worth visiting.
