Visiting the first of the two Roman centres

Arles was the first of two towns of Roman origin with several relatively intact Roman sights. The first thing we saw on the way into town from the car park was the colosseum. It is in very good condition and it was exciting for me to finally see one that actually looked more or less like it did all those centuries ago. Just as the amphitheatre in Orange it is still used for perfromances today. We had some trouble climbing to the top because some stairs only take you halfway up while others go...

I went with my orchestra to France for a week. We played several concerts in Provence and the Alps. We also got to see the beautiful countryside and Roman ruins which are integrated into the modern towns.

I like a lot the paintings of Vincent Van Gough and wanted to see Aeles, where he did his lat paintings.  I was not disapointed, it is a beautiful place where you can see around the country and the sky that facinated Van Gough.  But it is more than that, it has roman past that is also woth looking into.
