A nice place to enjoy modern ark Mar 27, 2010
The surrounding of Copenhagen has two great museums of modern art besides the State museum in the city centre. The more important of the two and the best known is naturally Louisiana but I can also recommend the smaller ARKEN. ARKEN Museum of Modern Art is a private self owning, but state authorised, new art museum situated in the suburb Ishøj some 20 kilometres south of Copenhagen.

The museum opened on 15 March 1996 and was designed by the Danish architect Søren Robert Lund, and has a very special form of architecture. As I remember he was still studying when he entered the design competition of the museum.

The museum features modern works by Danish, Scandinavian and international painters. The museum also has a collection of around 400 post-war contemporary art pieces. These include works by artist such as Damien Hirst, Olafur Eliasson, Sherin Neshat, Wolfgang Tillmans and Danish - Norwegian duo Ingar Dragset and Michael Elmgreen.

I like to visit the place at least a couple of times a year following the main exhibitions; last I was there the main focus was on Miró.
Notice the beautiful floor as well
