Rockin in Little Rock, Arkansas! Life is Good Again!

After a long cold winter in NYC, I began to realize that I may be suffering from a touch of cabin fever.  Usually by April I am done with the cold weather.  This year was no exception.  After taking a hiatus, I decided that the 50 State Project couldn’t be ignored anymore.  I don’t feel that the project can be truly enjoyed during the winter months as I really dislike the cold.   So a few weeks ago, I decided it was time to finally head down South as I have neve...

Last night as I finished my blog and tucked it away on-line and went to bed I thought my day was over. But at least an hour later we got a phone call from our second son from Sparks, Nevada. "Do you guys know where you are?" he shouted excitedly into the phone. Judy was puzzled and so was I. "That’s the hometown of my favorite NASCAR driver, Mark Martin!" he exclaimed, "And he has a museum there in town. You’ve just gotta go see it!" Well, he said more than that, but for the sake of this ...

Im a marked man

Not even half an hour outside of OKC, I have another run-in with Johnny Law.  Well, this guy was more like Cletus-law, and boy howdy!  He sure was a prick!  He pulled out of a tree-filled median and followed me for about 5 miles or so.  I saw a gas station at the next exit, so I pulled off the highway to fill up the tank (I almost ran dry between Roswell and Texas, so I'm trying to keep it 1/2 full).  Sure enough, he cuts in behind me and follows me down the ramp.&nbs...

Hot Springs, AR & Hot Springs National Park
posted by:

First stop: The Buckstaff bathhouse is the only operational bathhouse within Hot Springs NP and has been in operation since 1912. It is privately owned but is strictly monitored by the National Park Service. This explains the amazing prices. I purchased the traditional bathing package which includes a thermal mineral bath, sitz bath, vapor cabinet, mineral wrap, needle shower, Swedish massage, and loofa mitt. In total, it's almost an hour-and-a-half of pampering for $50. Good luck ...

Not really Little Rock, but just somewhere in Arkansas.

(J) There are mangroves in Arkansas--no pictures if asked to hand over evidence of said obviously random fact. Apparently 75 mph and a cement rail with tree cover doesn't lend for picture taking. Who knew? Personally, I was hoping for have a monument erected as a replica of my picture. It will look like a cement highway border with 10 trees on the opposite side. People will drive for miles and miles in search of such an rare sight. (Said picture was deleted by Jenni)

Decent Hotel Room, No Key
posted by:
Mar 11, 2008 - Mar 14, 2008
I check into the Comfort Suites Hotel in Jonesboro after a very long day of travel delays.  The woman at the front desk checked me in and said "Let me show you to your room."  To which I asked why and she told me their door key machine was broken and that she would have to let me into my room every time I needed in.  Sure enough she left the desk and took me all the way up to my room and let me in.  Luckily I was too tired to go out anywhere, otherwise I wou...

I am sorry the update here on TravBuddy hasn't been as comprehensive as I would have liked - we have been travelling about with little time to update everyone and everything. However, we arrived in Appleton and met up with listener Chuck Tomasi from ChuckChat.com and stayed over at his place for a few days. We visited the national Railroad Museum which was fantastic. The size of the trains was incredible and we have a number of photos of them at www.Vobes.com on the USA page! The ...

Drove through 1 state...1 more to go!  Still on the 40, we headed west.    We then merged onto Interstate 440 W towards Texarkana....hmmm...can you figure out where this town is located?  Though we didn't stop in Little Rock, Arkansas, we did see it from afar.  Can't remember what it looked like.  As we drove through the Little Rock area, we merged onto Interstate 30 W to Texarkana/Hot Springs.  I don't remember much of the Arkansas landscape other than...

Visiting all 50 US State Capitol Buildings!: Little Rock Travel Photos
posted by:
Jun 08, 1993 - Aug 22, 2006
It started innocently enough; I visited Juneau, Alaska in June 1993 and explored the State Capitol building. A few months later, It was Montgomery, Alabama's. In the course of time, it became a hobby. Near the end it became a bit of an obsession. Then, in August of 2006, I visited my 50th US State Capitol building in Pierre, SD. (Yeh!) Yes, I know, I'm a geography nerd.... All entries are maintained in on the 'first visit' date.
