Arkaig Guest House Aberdeen Reviews
Arkaig guest House Sep 11, 2012
A quiet little B&B just outside the city centre. Probably a 15-20 minute walk from Union Street, but much closer to Old Aberdeen and St Machars. Has private parking area for residents around the corner, and has plenty of of buses going past it,to and from the centre, including the 727 service from Union Square to Aberdeen Airport.
Check in is from 4pm, although the owner did phone us, on the morning of our arrival, to find out what time we would be arriving, to make sure she was there, and we checked in at 3.
Feels homely the minute you walk in, and the check in was really no more than a formality. Has a range of rooms, from 1-3 people, and we had booked a family room, with a double bed and single.
Our room was was quite spacious, and had a nice bay window at the front. Although the main road runs right outside it, we were never disturbed by any noise.
There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room and there was free wifi available. TV had the main channels and a few extra Freesat ones as well.
Bathroom was a bit on the small side, but at least it was en suite, and entirely functional. Had a good shower in it as well.
I found the bed really comfortable, and had a great night's sleep on both nights we stayed.
There is a garden area at the back of the house, where you can sit out if it is nice, or use if you smoke.
My wife and son did breakfast, which had a full range available, and they really enjoyed the cooked breakfast.
The guest house doesn't do evening meals, but you are more than welcome to bring in take away foods and use the dining room here, even has a sign up inviting you to do so.
There are a couple fast food shops nearby, and a couple of small convenience stores.
Evelyn and her husband, who run it, are lovely people, and very helpful.Good place to stay if you are heading to and from the airport here, visiting the university or just wandering about. The measure of any where is would you stay there again, and we certainly will.
