We left on sat. morning from Gilbert, AZ on our way to Sedona, AZ. We had planned a day trip with our friends Kami and Bryan. It is only about an hour and a half drive north on the 17 from phoenix to this beautiful place. It is really easy to get there and a very pretty drive. all you do is take the 17 north, which is off the 10, for almost 100 miles. there are signs all over the freeway once you start getting close but if somehow you miss them exit on AZ-179 and turn left. aft…

My travels took me to Arizona in 2004. I didn't really know what to expect other than heat. Sure I'd seen it on TV and it looked like a cool (not in a temperature way) place albeit quite desolate. What I found was a place thats very hard to describe, but very interesting all the same. Arizona is predominately desert but not the sense that it's all sand. It's got a very interesting landscape, and the red rock fromations are stunning.
I've two striking memories from my trip. I should preface t…

My husband Nathan and I decided to get our of phoenix for the afternoon and drive up north to see the beautiful fall colors in payson. It is a relatively short drive to Payson from Phoenix, just about 2 hours. We spent most of our day playing around Christopher Creek. It was a great day trip... we had a lot of fun!

These are photos since August 2007, as I stated none of them have been edited or changed. I just wanted these to be pure, untouched by the digital blackroom that is my life.

After a glorious morning touring Bryce Canyon, we again found ourselves with the wind in our face and the sun on our back. We had been in this corner of the world in 2005 and knew exactly where we wanted to eat supper. Williams, Arizona.
Highway 89 South is a good road that would take us right into Flagstaff. From Flagstaff, Williams is a short thirty-minute ride on I-40 West. The only drawback was the many miles we needed to travel before Flagstaff.&nb…

Went to Page AZ with my girlfriend and parents to float down the Colorado River from Glen Canyon Dam to Lee's Ferry. We also went to a slot canyon called Antelope Canyon.

We started our day in Moab, which is a cute town in southern Utah. Its also about 5 minutes away from Arches National Park, our first stop today. The park is home to 2,000 natural made arches, which we saw only a handful of. We got to climb around the arches (well underneath), which is always fun! Afterwards we continued to drive south towards Arizona, and through Monument Valley (think of the scene in Forest Gump where he is just running through the desert). Beautiful out there...looks like …

We left Barstow mostly on time (in other words: late by less than an hour!) for an uneventful drive to Flagstaff, AZ. The drive across the desert is fascinating. Yes, it seems barren and almost lifeless. But, in fact, it is neither. The creosote bushes are spaced as evenly as if humans planted them. They create a zone around themselves to insure their roots get enough water on those rare occasions when rain falls. The mountains seem dessicated by the heat a…

I took this job several years ago as a guide leading 3-5 week long road trips all across the US. I had a loose plan, a van, 5-13 people from all over the world and an atlas of the US. It was at once the hardest, most intense and enjoyable job I have ever had.

We had arrived home. Just as dusk was closing in on the desert our plane touched down on Arizona soil. I looked out the window as we were landing and marveled at the unending brown terrain that stretched out as far as the eye could see. Cactus and a sprinkling of scrub brush greeted us once more. I had gotten used to the grass, trees and flowers that are common place to those in many other parts of the world. But the desert has its own barren and sometimes unforg…
