Havasupai Falls Current mood: calm Category: Travel and Places These pictures are from my September 2005 trip to Havasupai Falls. Surprisingly, this little piece of heaven is located at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I was absolutely astounded by the beauty. You start in the hot desert in Arizona and end up in trop…

The one thing which EVERYONE told me to do during this trip was a helicopter ride down the Grand Canyon, so I did, and it was FANTASTIC! :-)
I went with Maverick helicopters, who were not the cheapest option, however, came very well recommended. They lived up to their reputation by providing an amazing 4 or 5 hours.
They picked me up directly from the Bellagio, where I was joined with some others from the hotel. We were taken to the Maverick building which sits on the edge of Las Veg…

No, this is not a "prequel" to the 1988 XXIV Seoul Olympic Games, nor is it a reminiscent flashback upon its 20th anniversary. This is the anticipation and disorganized preparation for my first historic (to me anyway) footprint on Oriental soil.
Unlike our trip to the German Christmas markets, where we gave ourselves about thirty-six hours of predeparture preparation, this time we have allowed ourselves the luxury of ninety-six hours to make all…

Its Christmas Day in the United States which means that its time to leave the country. Being a cheaper day to fly, not to mention the empty (or emptier) airports, we took a 7:30 AM flight out of Phoenix, through San Franciso, to Kansai Airport (KIX) in Japan. This effectively removes all obligations for making Christmas day phone calls. However, all of those had to occur on December 24th as a result of the trip, so no real benefit was realized in that arena. As expected, secu…

They've decided to build a fence... behind the fence that's already there, along the U.S. - Mexico border south of Yuma, Arizona. This section of border is unique in that it runs north-south, so you look across into Mexico to the west! They gathered up our team of biologists, archeologists, and Indian tribal representatives, to make this initial assessment of the area. The route followed the Colorado River, a major river in the west... but it's dry here, near the mouth. We've managed to di…

After the slightly disappointing Hoover Dam we continued onward to the Grand Canyon. I was driving at this point and we could see lots of dark dark clouds ahead. We watched as lightening struck and were less than thrilled to see that we were heading right towards it.We missed our off ramp and had to pull over to get directions at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center in town. Then woman looked at me as if I was retarded when I asked for directions but she gave them to me. Pretty much turn left and …

I have been asked many times if I consider myself spontaneous! Well I guess the word is relative depending on what the situation, circumstance or ocassion is. I like to do things on impulse and they normally make sense to me, but to a more practical person I'm nothing but inconsiderate. Well in America, one would call it an addiction, but I like to call it a passion for travel. The more I travel, the more I yearn to know, the more I thirst for those far away places and find myself watch…

As usual, my IRL travel buddies (Dave and Tucker) and I had the chance to travel together again. Dave recently moved back to the States and bought a car in TN. He moved to Cali so Tucker and I went along for the ride. We stopped at Zion Canyon, Grand Canyon, VLA in New Mexico, OC California, and finally San Diego!

Belive it or not this was a "day trip" I made from Phoenix.I woke up at 3am and drove from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon solo. It was a very simple drive, just LONG.Getting there I decided I was going to do a 8 mile hike, so I did! I will have to say that from where I was the Bright Angel Trail isnt as pretty from inside the canyon as it is outside, but I know I didnt go in far enough to see the real beauty of it all.I had the pleasure of meeting a number of German and English folks walking alo…

The Town too Tough to Die," Tombstone is known in wild west's history as the notorious mining camp for lawlessness, violence, and debauchery - all eclipsed by the infamous gunfight at the o.k. corral between the earps and the clamptons.
Many of the buildings from the 1880s still stand to this day; and with its dirt road through main street and coach tours, one feels as though they have stepped back in time.
Upon my arrival, i was so excited, but had much difficulty in discerning which part o…
