prior to rafting the colorado river, i had visited and hiked around the north and south rims of the grand canyon... the north kaibab trail, and descended once...about 3/4 of the way down the canyon from the south rim (along the bright angel trail).
never did i imagine those experiences being measured so inadequate against the colorado river rafting trip of may, 2008. 23 rafters, 2 rafts, 4 guides, 8 days, hikes and hikes over 225 river miles.
some of it s…

It's Sunday- Mike and I are headed thru Phoenix and then on to home. We see a stop off along the way for Montezuma's Castle and decide to make a quick detour to see what it is all about. We get to the park- pay the $5 fee and head in to check out what the Pueblo Indians of the area had created in the face of the rocks. We were a little disapointed to be so far away from the acutal structures and were surprised that there were only a couple buildings/carvi…

Oh the wonders of the internet!
I had not spoken with my best friend from High School in more than 14 years and we had even lost touch with each other. I had searched for him but was not successful. It turns out he had searched me out as well. On May 15, I received an e-mail asking if I were the Jeremy that went to North Tahoe High School and I replied yes. It was my friend!!!! He found me through an internet search on airplanes. I …

The day started off innocently enough. 25 college students and their TA were planning on taking a 3-mile hike down into the Grand Canyon, then back up in time to return to LA. We got up extremely early so as to realize this goal, and my camera died on the hike down. Grr.When we reached a point that was about one-half mile from where we were supposed to turn around, a park ranger informed us that the temperature was going to get too high that day to go any further, as those w…

I know this entry is way too old to blog, but my interest in travelling, seeing places started here.
I used to work in a company that offered me an opportunity to go to US for a stint. My stayed in Scottsdale, Arizona from June 2005 – Jan 2006 gave me so much memorable experiences that I cherish for the rest of my life.
Here are some of the pictures taken during my 6-month stay(excluding those side road trips in Disneyland, Universal, Las Vegas, etc.)

Over the course of 8 days, my husband and I, along with our 14 year old kitty, drove from Washington DC to San Diego CA this week. Highlights include stops along Route 66 in Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico and incredible scenic vistas of the Southwest.

I hear you are coming to Phoenix soon :)Perhaps a Phx mini meet is in order to welcome our out of town guest.

And with that innocent profile comment, the Phoenix meet-up (number 3) was begun!
I wanted to go to the meet-up in Vegas September 11-14, and had some fantasy foootball drafts to attend in the Northeast on August 28 and September 2, so I decided to convince the bosses that I needed to go back to the CT office for a few days then t…

It is said that Peach Springs, Arizona was the inspiration for the sleepy town of Radiator Springs in the animated movie 'Cars'. If this is true, I don't know, but it can be said that there is not a terrible lot to see and do in Peach Springs!Peach Springs is a *really* small town on Route 66 and the largest settlement on the Hualapai Indian Reservation. There is really nothing special to do in Peach Springs itself and I guess the major reason most people would visit is passing through …

I couldn't travel all the way to LV and not see the Grand Canyon. I thought about driving it but it was too far for a day trip so opted for the helicopter ride.
It was brilliant. It took about 40 minutes to get there and on the way we took in Hoover Dam and other sights. Nothing really prepares you for when you fly over the rim, it just takes your breath away.
We landed at the bottom and were treated to a glass of bubbly and some facts and figures. On the way ba…

Oi! The trip to Tucson kicked off with a series of late departures (bus
from Vancouver was an uncomfortable 15 minutes late, then the flight
from Bellingham was a good 45 minutes late, then the flight to Phoenix
was a nice 3 hours late etc etc), and I got my ass interrogated by US
Customs as per usual (tip: avoid any mention of an American
boyfriend/girlfriend if possible), but I made it! Hello Arizona! So? What did I do, you ask? Well, let me tell you what I did!
Shuttle to Ina R…

Today was the Grand Canyon, but from the North Rim. Most times you will see reviews and blogs from the south rim, which is the most popular point for tourists.
We drive about 80 miles south from Kanab, Utah to the end of the road.
We spent nearly the entire day strolling along at one point and then driving to the next and doing it all again. But let me remind everyone that this area is at the 8,000 foot level, so the air is thin and anyone with breathing or heart problems shou…

We showed off our Roadtrek to a fellow RV’er this morning. He has a 40’ motor home and was curious about our compact rig. He was impressed with the quality and features but we think he went back and said to his wife:” If you think our motor home is too small you need to see theirs!” LOL
Passing through Searchlight, NEV we chuckled to see a police car parked alongside the road going out of town with the driver being a stuffed dummy. That is one …
