It's Sunday- Mike and I are headed thru Phoenix and then on to home. We see a stop off along the way for Montezuma's Castle and decide to make a quick detour to see what it is all about.     We get to the park- pay the $5 fee and head in to check out what the Pueblo Indians of the area had created in the face of the rocks. We were a little disapointed to be so far away from the acutal structures and were surprised that there were only a couple buildings/carvi...

I have an almost mystic love of the Southwest. My father lives out in Gilbert with his wife. So much history and beauty and culture. I wish I could get out there more often. One of these days, I will settle out there like I promised myself years ago.

Oh the wonders of the internet! I had not spoken with my best friend from High School in more than 14 years and we had even lost touch with each other.  I had searched for him but was not successful.   It turns out he had searched me out as well.   On May 15, I received an e-mail asking if I were the Jeremy that went to North Tahoe High School and I replied yes.  It was my friend!!!!   He found me through an internet search on airplanes.   I ...

Bright Angel Canyon

The day started off innocently enough.  25 college students and their TA were planning on taking a 3-mile hike down into the Grand Canyon, then back up in time to return to LA.  We got up extremely early so as to realize this goal, and my camera died on the hike down.  Grr.When we reached a point that was about one-half mile from where we were supposed to turn around, a park ranger informed us that the temperature was going to get too high that day to go any further, as those w...

CKs Meet-up

freespirit3 says: I hear you are coming to Phoenix soon :)Perhaps a Phx mini meet is in order to welcome our out of town guest. Posted on: Aug 15, 2008 And with that innocent profile comment, the Phoenix meet-up (number 3) was begun! I wanted to go to the meet-up in Vegas September 11-14, and had some fantasy foootball drafts to attend in the Northeast on August 28 and September 2, so I decided to convince the bosses that I needed to go back to the CT office for a few days then t...

also known as Radiator Springs!

It is said that Peach Springs, Arizona was the inspiration for the sleepy town of Radiator Springs in the animated movie 'Cars'. If this is true, I don't know, but it can be said that there is not a terrible lot to see and do in Peach Springs!Peach Springs is a *really* small town on Route 66 and the largest settlement on the Hualapai Indian Reservation. There is really nothing special to do in Peach Springs itself and I guess the major reason most people would visit is passing through ...

Christmas
posted by:
Dec 25, 2006 - Jan 04, 2007
Its Christmas Day in the United States which means that its time to leave the country.  Being a cheaper day to fly, not to mention the empty (or emptier) airports, we took a 7:30 AM flight out of Phoenix, through San Franciso, to Kansai Airport (KIX) in Japan.  This effectively removes all obligations for making Christmas day phone calls.  However, all of those had to occur on December 24th as a result of the trip, so no real benefit was realized in that arena. As expected, secu...

The Grand Canyon

The one thing which EVERYONE told me to do during this trip was a helicopter ride down the Grand Canyon, so I did, and it was FANTASTIC! :-) I went with Maverick helicopters, who were not the cheapest option, however, came very well recommended.  They lived up to their reputation by providing an amazing 4 or 5 hours. They picked me up directly from the Bellagio, where I was joined with some others from the hotel. We were taken to the Maverick building which sits on the edge of Las Veg...

After the slightly disappointing Hoover Dam we continued onward to the Grand Canyon. I was driving at this point and we could see lots of dark dark clouds ahead. We watched as lightening struck and were less than thrilled to see that we were heading right towards it.We missed our off ramp and had to pull over to get directions at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center in town. Then woman looked at me as if I was retarded when I asked for directions but she gave them to me. Pretty much turn left and ...

I leave tomorrow.... my house is not clean yet, the clothes are still in the dryer, the trash needs to be lugged down... ugh. This all needs to be done tonight, seeing as how I don't come back here tomorrow - I leave directly from work (leaving early) to the airport - so this is my last chance! I was already un-motivated, and then by the time I got off work, my brother had been rushed to the hospital to have emergency surgery - he's fine, or will be, just his appendix; but my mother ha...

Tucson (TOO-SAWN)

Oi! The trip to Tucson kicked off with a series of late departures (bus from Vancouver was an uncomfortable 15 minutes late, then the flight from Bellingham was a good 45 minutes late, then the flight to Phoenix was a nice 3 hours late etc etc), and I got my ass interrogated by US Customs as per usual (tip: avoid any mention of an American boyfriend/girlfriend if possible), but I made it! Hello Arizona! So? What did I do, you ask? Well, let me tell you what I did! Shuttle to Ina R...
