That morning we got up at 4:00 am, gathered our things, jumped in a taxi, and headed back to the Singapore Airport one last time; by that point, we had been there 3 times already on the trip; once upon our arrival, the second upon our departure to Bangkok, and then just the night before when we arrived back from Bangkok. We were becoming experts at the Singapore airport.
As we pulled up, I knew we were all dying to go home, but it was still hard to accept; even finishing writing this ...

Spring brings catcus and flowers blooming. Had always heard the desert could be pretty especially during those times when it does have rain . These are either in our yard or in our neighborhood.

We chatted online, we chatted by phone, the time has come to make the leap and hold our very first Phoenix meetup (mini-meet, we like to start small). Since the Phoenix area is SOOOO spread out and our Tbs come from all extremes of the valley, we decided to host this in Central Phoenix on a Friday night so everyone could come right from work. The plans were set, the location was chosen, the time announced and the invites sent. None of us had ever met (ALL of us are newbies) ...

We were a little bit grumpy with Las Vegas after flying in the night before.
We landed at 11 o’clock, but after an hour wait for the shuttle bus to come and
an hour wait in line at the Imperial Palace just to pick up our room key and
find out our trip to Zion National Park had been cancelled, we finally trudged
through the banks of blank faces inhabiting the casino floor at 3am for a quick
nap before our 5am wake-up for the Grand Canyon tour.
We perked up on the road, as ...

We decided to get an early start on our day trip to the Grand Canyon today, as it's a four-hour drive from Vegas. We were on the road by 9:30am, and arrived in Arizona a few winks later. The drive was non-descript, other than the unusual amount of trees around. I expected the Grand Canyon area (and especially Arizona) to be a lot less arboreal. The park rangers were all a bunch of goobers, which lifted my spirits a bit as we waited in line to get into the park area.&nb...

It is like the disney land of old. Watch jousting tournaments where the knights battle to the death, fly in one of leonardo da vinci's flying contraptions, observe the ancient art of falconry, see how cloth was woven, buy a sword, a suit of armor, rub yourself in perfumes and oils of old, watch live performances of music, dance, and comedy through out the day, and eat eat eat!
A journey into another world. A world of jousting, archery, sword fights, swashbuckling, goblets and sha...

This turned out to be a great trip to Las Vegas! My gambling skills (if you want to count pushing the buttons on slot machines as 'skill') put me $500 ahead. Not bad for a $20 investment, huh?! We had a great time touring the Grand Canyon, visiting a couple of the spas in Vegas and made friends with several Las Vegas 'locals' as well as Marga from Cape Town, South Africa. The weather was fantastic and my winnings made it that much more fun. Be sure to read my other blog on Las Vegas!

WITH MY FAMILY: My sister and her family flew over from Londond to have christmas 2006 with me. It was so exciting considering I had not seen her in almost 3 years and her little daughter who had been born two years earlier was walking and talking before I saw her. She like me had always wanted to see the Grand Canyon, so we olanned to drive from Tucson to the Canyon right after Christmas.

I'd meant to go see Mickey’s Hangover or Scottsdale or some of the other wonderful places that Amanda has been telling us about in her Athewinn blog about Phoenix. They sounded fascinating. But I couldn’t resist going back to my favorite Phoenix place ever - the Desert Botanical Garden. And of course, we went in the early morning for the early morning light on the cacti and to see the birds and animals too. The Desert Botanical Garden (1201 N ...

prior to rafting the colorado river, i had visited and hiked around the north and south rims of the grand canyon... the north kaibab trail, and descended once...about 3/4 of the way down the canyon from the south rim (along the bright angel trail).
never did i imagine those experiences being measured so inadequate against the colorado river rafting trip of may, 2008. 23 rafters, 2 rafts, 4 guides, 8 days, hikes and hikes over 225 river miles.
some of it s...
